Reliability Assessment and Innovative Materials Design of Heat-Resistant Alloys for the 2050 Energy Transformation

About us

We conduct research aimed at reliability evaluation and performance improvement of heat-resistant metallic materials for thermal power generation and aircraft engines. Recently, news reports suggesting the phasing out of thermal power generation have become more prominent due to the worldwide trend towards decarbonization. However, thermal power generation remains an essential power source in decarbonized societies. We are advancing our research based on the 2050 energy revolution that is just beginning, focusing on the following three areas:

1. Microstructure evaluation in high-temperature hydrogen environments
2. Creep fatigue damage evaluation and damage reduction technologies for thermal power plants
3. Novel alloy design for high efficiency aircraft engines and next-generation gas turbines

In all of these research areas, we place great emphasis on the evaluation and control of microstructures that determine the mechanical properties of metallic materials, and we pursue the relationship with high-temperature strength properties.
